My Story |
My life has been an adventure so far, from building a better 'self' to contribution towards the 'society'. Journeys of volunteering started from my childhood. My parents were my role models in contributing to the society. The adventure of life went on during my school days with several clubs such as Environment, Information Technology, Traffic Safety, and I was there in the front row for all the events that happened in my school as well as community, taking a lead role in organizing it. In the later years, I started to focus my volunteering works in soothing people's difficulties through Volunteering in the Emergency Casualty of Kozhikkode Government Medical College. This was the place, where I started to look deeper into the process of volunteering and leadership. Working with National Service Scheme as a Volunteer and later as a member of State Level Program co-ordination team enhanced my skills in diverse areas from Gender Sensitization, Disaster Management, Leadership, Energy Saving, Hospital Equipment Maintenance to National Integration associating with Kerala State Electricity Board, Kerala State Yuvajana Kshema Board, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, etc.
In 2016, When I got into the Republic Parade at New Delhi, I didn't feel meeting the President, Prime Minister and Vice-President of the nation as some achievements. But, instead, it gave me a feeling that they are as same as all humans. But, with proper support system. The journey after that was more into several Non-Profit Organizations across the nation such as Pravah - a youth led organization based in Delhi, Voluntary Service Overseas International (VSO) in Bangladesh, Teaching Fellowship with Telangana Social Welfare Educational Institutions etc.
It was in the same year, the Idea of 'Ignite India' came into our minds. Yes, It was from a hostel room, we started dreaming big about Ignite young minds in India. The idea of 'Ignite India' started growing along with us turning from developing the capacity of NSS Volunteers to an organization building social leaders and change-makers.
In the river of my life, there has been hardships which actually had contributed in building the person whom I had become. I wouldn't have been more resilient if there were no such hardships in my life.
I always believed that, learning should never be forced, but be curiosity driven, and it should equip each learner to live a peaceful and prosperous life. The Self Learning Center came into existence in rural Rajasthan from this thought as a baby step towards the dream of helping learners learn whatever they wish to learn with the help of their facilitator.
Later, I got into the community of Learners, educators, home schoolers, un-schoolers, organic farmers and people who live in a sustainable lifestyle through 'Learners Society Un-conference' which was co-hosted by Shikshantar Andolan, Gandhi Vidya Mandir, Swashikshan Association of Indian Homeschoolers, Vikalp Sangam, Indian Multiversities Alliance, Abhivyakti Media for Development, Digital Empowerment Foundation, Banyan Tree Bookstore, Moved by Love, Blue Ribbon Movement, YES Jam, Aikyam Network for Sustainable Living, Zero Waste Lifestyle-India, Dariya Dil Dukaanheld in Sardarshahr, Rajasthan.
While having these adventures with several organizations across the country, I got to explore 24 states, 5 union territories of India and 2 neighbouring nations; Nepal and Bangladesh. It seems like there has no end to the wisdom that we gain from people during travels. Many of such journeys to the villages, mountains and cities had shifted my perspectives of development to a very different one than that I had before. I believe that now, I have the ability to see things through various lenses of people across the nation.
During the flood in Kerala, I got to co-lead creating 25000 disaster relief kits with the district administration for flood effected families in Kerala working with the District Administrators Seeram Sambashiva Rao IAS and V. Vigneshwari IAS.
It was during Covid lockdowns, the idea of Thattukada UnConferencing Space(TUCS) came into existence. Myself along with two of my friends had co-created 'TUCS' as a space where learning, unlearning and re-learning happens. We had numerous events in diverse areas at 'Thattukada'. Neither it can be Listening Circle, nor discussion on Education, people started joining the Community from across the state.
Since Facilitation is one of my superpowers, I never miss an opportunity that helps me grow in facilitation. That is how, I got into the Global Extended Pool of Facilitators at ChangemakerXchange through the Training of Trainers Summit organized by CxC in association with Recipes of Wellbeing.
Now, at Ignite, we facilitate Leadership journeys for young leaders from across the nation through Capacity Development workshop, Summer Camps, Winner Camps and Leadership Journeys.
I'm grateful to all the people and organizations who had supported me in my growth.
